I like the buoys on your mast to prevent turtling. I have a boat bumper lashed onto mine from last summer when we went camping for a week with Hobies and made a video. It's actually considerably lighter than the Hobie mast float and seems to do the trick. My boat capsized twice and it worked as hoped.

I never got any covid shots or tests as I'm not prone to viral attacks for some reason. Nope haven't even puked since I've been in Florida and I arrived here in 57 as a 14yo.. I don't get flu shots either even though I have had a few bouts of it through the years. For a guy with my history regarding virus covid is a total crock however I did mask up to protect others out in john q land as I could very well have been an asymptomatic carrier.

Motoring along the south coast of Sicily, from Siracusa to Marsala, we ran over a submerged log. First we heard was it banging along under the hull. Quickly cut the motor, but the log (~10 ft x 18”) snagged the rudder. We were getting ready to reluctantly go over the side to free it when the wind shifted the boat around and the log freed itself. What’s with all the bloody logs?

Nice seeing a female onboard, Sam. And she's adorable AND classy as well. Beautiful sailing weather also makes this especially memorable. One more thing... time flies and as a 30 something its an issue you need to be thinking about.

Anyhow, Sam your video's are plenty good enough for my viewing. I view on a 1280x1024, 19" monitor that works just fine off of my bigass computer running a linux client machine. Audio is also very good as well so whatever you're doing just keep doing it. I love your earthy, everyday, no fancy content. Years ago I crewed for a coupla years on a double ender steel ketch (center cockpit), a 40 footer with a full keel like your Bayfield 29 there. It was a little quicker due to the longer waterline and lotsa sail but not very much as we sported some 150 mile days here and there. This was in the days of sextants, Sam. I took the captain's word on it regarding where we were at the nooner check in time. This boat went around the horn East to West but I wasn't on it at the time. Yeah imagine navigating that passage with nothing but a sextant! Not only that the captain stated he remained well offshore just north of the maximum iceberg range! This is getting close to an area where you gotta be concerned about air temp due to icing the boat.

It took me a number of these videos to find that your boat is a Bayfield 29. Full keel, protected prop and rudder. 3000 pound ballast around 8500 hundred pound displace. Wow that's heavy for a 29 footer. So you're looking at about 6.5 knot max speed. Built originally with a 15 hp Yanmar with 19 gallons of fuel onboard. What a boat, Sam and no wonder that you feel confident taking this guy anywhere. I love your earthly, no nonsense videos. You're base is NC? But you've been all over the globe... wow what a life!

Great video Sam! That Spinnaker will get less tangled if you pull the guy until the boom is loose from the forestay and pull the clew to the stay before you hoist it. Happy sailing.

I can't imagine just driving through heeled over at 40 degrees. That is so nerve-racking to me. I don't like when I heel 15 lol.

I'd never go for a swim untethed out there and especially single handed. Absolutely no way. Put a tether on, Sam because you never know about Mother nature. You should consider a small windmill to charge your batteries as well. I've seen them mounted above self steering because how do you access out at sea on the top of mast?

I doubt Orca is gonna be biting off YOUR rudder because its NOT a stupid, cheap spade rudder, Sam.

Sam. It’s really you. Pardon my comment. I watch a lot/ most of your videos, because I like them. I know you are diligent and safe at sea. It was an off the cuff comment that I made while you were maybe working the drone. Forward of the cockpit. It was like I was there and felt like ribbing you while you were recording…… that’s all. God bless you Sam, you are brave and inspiring to your viewers, me included. Me, I sail a 7.6 Kelt, not far but through a beautiful group of Islands in BC. Known as the gulf islands.
